We usually see small business with a lot of energy and expectations, and suddenly they go down. One of my best friends, an Italian Fisheries Business man, told me he was very excited about a Centolla deal he was starting up. Until the first two months it didn't go as he expected. Was this a bad deal? No. He was very unorganized.

Business tips by Ricardo Baeza Errazuriz

1) Be sure you got money in the main account.

That's it. You need to have some back up to feel confident.

2) Understand your employees needs.

They will always demand more. Listen to them, they are your strength.

3) YES and NO: your main words.

Some say that business owners should be more clear and direct taking decisions. Feel free to say just yes, or just no.

4) Listen to your costumer (or read about their opinions). Sometimes we don't like costumers, that's true. But at the end of the day, they have the money to buy. Read online reviews, talk to them on social media, try to get to them in a very nice friendly way.

5) Be transparent (but not always).

You have to be honest with them, but that doesn't mean that you have to tell your secrets or internal issues. That's just not their business. Don't show your business as a weak business.

6) Work on your brand.

That means: own it, choose your message, your logo, your voice. Don't doubt about your intentions, people have to see you as a whole persona.

7) Check your finances.

Don't go crazy making numbers. Just be sure to know what's in and what goes out. Trust your team but work with them also, they support you.

8) Don't rush.

Success comes with time, amongst another things. Don't feel down if you are not the best in your field right away. Keep working on your path, don't be impatient. Time will say.

9) Talk to people with similar backgrounds.

Don't feel sorry, ask them, let them tell you their ideas and perspectives. You don't have to do what they did, but you can see how they faced problems, and business, and their own experiences.

10) Be humble.

That's one of the most simply things, and also, one of the most important values you have to have. Learn from the others, from your people, from your friends and coworkers. You don't own the truth or the right decisions. Listen.

What do you think?
